3005-EX Kit includes: 1005-EX Ignition(ARB E.O. D-641-3), 2005 Coil(ARB E.O. D-641-2), and 3003 Plug Wires.

ARB EO Legal 1005-EX Module for the following applications (D-641-1, D-641-2 and D-641-3)

• 1984-1999 Harley Davidson models with 1340cc Evolution® Big-Twin® engines

• 1986-1993 Harley Davidson XLH Sportster® models with 883cc engines

• 1986-1987 Harley Davidson XLH Sportster® model with 1100cc engines.

• This ignition kit works in all HD Shovelhead and Evolution engines built from 1970-1999.  With the exception of the: 1998-2003 Sportster 883/1200, which uses pn 1005S-EX.  Note: If you have a Sportster® 1200S with Dual Plug Heads –> refer to the additional information below on how to use our ignition system with the 1200S model.

• Drag Racing – If you are looking for the drag racing TWO STEP version of this kit. The part number is 3005-T. The two step version of this product is for racing only and it adds a second RPM limit that is used to limit the engine RPM while staging the motorcycle.

Wide timing advance adjustment range accommodates stock to highly modified engines.

P/N 3005-EX is an emissions legal ignition kit that includes the ignition module, coil and wires. The Model 1005 internal ignition unit is triggered from the stock timing rotor at the end of the camshaft and mounted within the “nose cone” of the engine. This “nose cone” ignition is applicable to a wide range of H-D® engines. The Model 1005 ignition replaces all the H-D® OE ignition components including the bulky wiring harness and external module. The resulting clean appearance is especially desirable on custom motorcycles. The 50 states street legal Model 1005 EX version fits all 1970-1984 Shovelhead® Big-Twin® engines, 1986-93 883 XLH Sportster® engines, 1986-87 1100 XLH Sportster® engines, and 1984-1999 1340 Evolution® Big-Twin® engines and features advance curves suitable for all street applications including high compression engines. The Model 1005 Race version fits all 1970-1984 Shovelhead® Big-Twin® engines, 1971-1997 Sportster® engines, and 1984-1999 Evolution® Big-Twin® engines and includes race advance curves with a slightly wider adjustment range. The 50 states street legal Model 1005S EX fits 1998-2003 Sportster® engines (except dual plug 1200S) and directly plugs into the OE wiring harness (these late models came with an OE internal ignition). The Model 1005S EX has advance curves optimized for these Sportster® applications.

The Model 1005 ignition module is constructed with a low profile machined billet aluminum housing. Four rotary switches are used to set the operating modes (such as single or dual fire, advance curve family, and multi-spark), adjust the timing advance, and select the RPM limit. Two diagnostic LEDs indicate status and the state of the vacuum switch (VOES). The status LED is also used for static timing, as it will flash when the engine reaches top dead center (TDC).

You can adjust the slope and advance curve total using the switches on the unit or connect using our PC Link Evo software and USB adapter pn 18014 to optimize and build your own timing advance for a wide range of applications – stock to highly modified engines. Single or dual fire mode is also switch selectable, this flexibility allows you to initially install the unit and run it in dual fire mode with your stock coil. Then you can then easily upgrade to single fire by install our part number 2005 coil and 3003 wires. If you have a tach, it will continue to operate properly. Note: Dual Fire = 360 ignition firing and Single Fire = 720 ignition firing.

A special feature allows the double use of the tachometer wire so when the engine is not running it connects to USB adapter pn 18014 so a laptop PC using our PC Link Evo Software can connect to the 1005 ignition when the engine is not running. PC link Evo Software is not required for normal setup or operation. It is used to access additional features for precision ignition curve adjustment via dyno tuning (such as programming a custom advance curve and setting rear cylinder timing offset). The USB interface pn 18014 is sold separately, and our PC Link Evo Windows compatible software is available for download. The software will operate in demo mode without an ignition attached.

Kick Start Capability
The Model 1005 is primarily intended for electric start applications. However, Rev 7.0 and newer 1005s-ex,1005-ex and 1005 units (manufactured after January, 2006) can be programmed for kick start mode by using our PC Link Evo software and optional USB interface pn 18014. If you order on-line, you can add a note stating that you require kick start capability and we will pre-program the unit for you at no extra cost. When programmed for kick start mode, the unit has zero cranking delay and a 30 second timeout before the current to the coil is shutoff.

Sportster® 1200S with Dual Plug Heads
The Sportster®1200S model with dual plug heads comes with a special ignition module, similar to that used on Twin-Cam 88® models. If you require a programmable aftermarket ignition for the 1200S, we have the solution. You can use our External Ignition version pn 1007-EX (not the 1005S). The original equipment coil has low resistance primary windings that are not compatible with our Ignition. You must replace the original equipment coil with an aftermarket four tower coil, such as the Dyna DC6-4, that has 3 ohm primary resistance. Please refer to our Dual Spark Plug Tech Note for more details. You will have to remove the original equipment MAP sensor. You will also require our timing rotor (P/N 18004) and VOES switch (P/N 18010).
