ARB EO Legal for the following applications (D-641-1 and D-641-3 )
• 1984-1999 Harley Davidson models with 1340cc Evolution® Big-Twin® engines
• 1986-1993 Harley Davidson XLH Sportster® models with 883cc engines
• 1986-1987 Harley Davidson XLH Sportster® model with 1100cc engines.
Utilizes 1007-EX – Emissions Legal External Ignition Module and a special hall pickup designed for: 1970-1999 Evolution, Sportster and Shovelhead.
• This ignition module works in all HD Shovelhead and Evolution engines built from 1970-1999. Note: If you have a Sportster® 1200S with Dual Plug Heads: refer to the additional information below on how to use our ignition system with the 1200S model.
What is the difference between the 1005 Internal Ignition module and the 1006 and 1007 External Ignition modules? The primary difference is that the external ignition modules mount on the frame of the motorcycle and utilize a special hall effect pickup that mounts under the ignition cover and the internal ignition module mounts under the ignition cover. All of the features are the same between the 1005, 1006 and 1007 ignition modules.
• Four rotary switches are used to set the operating modes (single or dual fire), adjust timing advance and the maximum RPM limit. Two diagnostic LED’s indicate status and the state of the vacuum switch (VOES). The status LED will also flash when the engine reaches TDC while setting the static timing.
• The timing slope can be adjusted by the user using the timing advance rotary switch. The timing curves are setup for stock to highly modified engines, the curves are detailed in the product installation instructions (below).
• Choose to run the ignition in either single fire or dual fire mode. In single fire mode (720 fire), the ignition system fires the appropriate coil once for every two revolutions, dual fire mode fires both coils every revolution (360 fire).
• Custom ignition curves can be programmed via a Windows laptop PC by utilizing a special feature built into the tachometer wire. When the engine is NOT running, a laptop PC running our PC Link EVO software is able to connect to the ignition unit via our USB interface pn 18014 through the tachometer wire.
Sportster® 1200S with Dual Plug Heads
To upgrade the ignition on your Sportster®1200S model with dual plug heads use our External Ignition 1007. You must replace the OE coil with a aftermarket four tower coil with 3 ohms of primary resistance, such as the Dyno DC-6-4. The original equipment coil has low resistance primary windings that are not compatible with our ignition. Please refer to our Dual Spark Plug Tech Note for more details. You will have to remove the original equipment MAP sensor. You will also require our timing rotor (P/N 18004) and VOES switch (P/N 18010).
