3008 Race Ignition Kit — Twin Cam 1999–2003
The 3008 Race Ignition Kit includes everything you need to upgrade your Twin Cam ignition system. The kit contains:
- 1008 TC88 Race Ignition Module
- 2008 Coil
- 3002 Wires
Direct Fit Applications
This kit is a direct plug and play fit for all 1999–2003 carbureted Twin Cam 88® engines. However, there are a few important fitment notes to be aware of:
- Emissions Legal Version — The 1008-EX offers the same performance but has been tested for emissions compliance. This version has a slightly larger advance curve adjustment range and has not been emissions tested.
- Drag Race Version — 3008-T — Everything included is the same as this kit. However, instead of the standard 1008 module, the 3008-T includes the 1008-T Two Step Stage RPM Limiter ignition module. The two step feature adds a second RPM limit used to hold engine RPM while staging the motorcycle on the line. If you are drag racing, choose the 3008-T.
- Sportster 883/1200 (1998–2003) — Requires ignition module PN 1005S-EX instead.
- Sportster 1200S with Dual Plug Heads — Requires external ignition PN 1007-EX. See our Dual Spark Plug Tech Note for full details.
- Custom Build or Bad Stock Harness — Use complete kit PN 30081, which includes a replacement ignition wiring harness, module, coil, wires and USB interface.
Key Features
This module is designed for ease of use and broad compatibility. As a result, it includes:
- Plug and play installation for 1999–2003 carb Twin Cam engines

- Digitally set RPM limit in 100 RPM steps

- Optional USB interface PN 18014 (not included) for custom advance curve programming
Timing Adjustment
Twin Cam engines use a non-adjustable crankshaft position sensor. Therefore, mechanical timing adjustments are no longer possible. The 1008/TC88 solves this by allowing you to adjust initial timing ±4 degrees using a rotary switch. A second switch sets the advance curve slope. Together, these two switches let you optimize timing for a wide range of engines — from stock to heavily modified.
Diagnostic Codes
H-D® Twin Cam motorcycles have a check engine warning LED on the instrument cluster. The 1008/TC88 communicates diagnostic information by blinking codes on that LED. As a result, you won’t need an expensive scan tool. Common codes include failed sensors and low or high battery voltage.
PC Link Software & USB Programming
In addition to the onboard switches, you can connect via our TC88 PC Link software and USB adapter PN 18014 to build a fully custom timing advance curve. Note that the USB interface plugs into the existing H-D diagnostic connector on the OEM wiring harness. Download the installation instructions from our website for full advance curve details.
Drag Racing — Two Step Version
If you are drag racing and need two step launch control, choose the 1008-T from the option dropdown. The two step version adds a second RPM limit used to hold engine RPM while staging. See the two step tech note at the bottom of the page for details.
Building a 1999–2017 Twin Cam Race Engine?
For a complete race build, we recommend the 30081-T Complete TC88-T Racing Ignition and Harness Kit. This kit includes:
- 1008-T TC88 Race Ignition Module with Two Step
